*Substance Abuse consistently shows up as a key predictor of hospital readmissions.
*Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services are constantly searching for news ways to improve quality of patient care and lower their spending program.
*Health Insurance- Medicare and Medicaid- have increased scrutiny on hospital readmissions as an indicator of payment and sub-par medical treatment.
*Hospital readmissions are an indicator of inadequate quality of care that increases Medicare/Medicaid spending.
*If a hospital has high readmissions in a short period of time, that could indicate to Medicare and Medicaid that there is a lack of coordination in patient discharge planning.
